New Addition for 2020!
Our New Maas Winged Aero
Since Wateriders’ founding in 1997, we have worked to offer our customers fun through human-powered boats, including kayaks and rowing shells. Now, beginning in 2020, Wateriders can provide a venue for instruction and sales of the world’s finest, open water rowing shell, the Maas Winged Aero.
Sliding seat rowing, or sculling, uses all the major muscle groups for a full-body workout as well as an invigorating meditation. Unlike skinny racing shells, which must be followed by a motorized craft due to their fragility, wider-beam open water shells provide both speed and stability. The fun of rowing indoors on a Concept 2 ergometer can provide the gateway to enjoying this sport on actual water.
This region of the river provides the perfect venue for beginners to become acquainted with the sport, intermediates to further their skills, and individuals considering a boat purchase to try out shells with no commitment.
Like kayaking, rowing on a peaceful stretch of Chicago River offers an immersion in nature. However, rowing is a more complex skill to master, due to its combination of strength and glide. Therefore, we limit instruction to private and semi-private lessons.
Wateriders offer private and semi-private lessons, rentals (once customers are fully certified in safety and skills) and sales of Maas Boats. Wateriders is the Maas dealer for the Central United States.
Row and Joe!
Come learn to row with a two hour morning sculling lesson. Each lesson will cover boat safety, entering and exiting the shell, how to feather and square the oars, and how to use the leg, back and arm muscles sequentially to experience the joy of a full body workout.
And, after any morning session starting before 10 AM, enjoy some Metropolis Coffee (roasted on site) on us!
If you are interested in learning, renting or joining us, please contact us today and one of our team will get in touch with you shortly.
